A Day in the Life: Construction Manager, Hassan El Badaoui
Meet Hassan El Badaoui, Construction Manager for our newest
subsidiary Powerline Plus. Hassan’s career with Powerline Plus
began in 2019 as a billing coordinator, and through dedication
and acquired expertise, he has ascended to the role of
construction manager.
Over the past six years, Hassan has transitioned through various
positions, including project coordinator and senior project
management, demonstrating exceptional skills in managing complex
projects, coordinating with stakeholders, and overseeing
financial and operational aspects of various sectors. His
journey reflects a deep commitment to professional growth and
excellence in engineering.

WHAT IS A CONSTRUCTION MANAGER AND WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO
YOUR DEPARTMENT?
A construction manager works alongside and coordinates with
various departments like design, estimating, and construction,
ensuring that projects are executed efficiently and safely.
We’re the go-to people when it comes to constructing a project
from start to finish. We’re crucial in setting up processes,
addressing problems, and ensuring that projects are completed on
time, within budget, and to the required quality standards. This
role involves coordinating between design, electrical, and civil
teams, managing project controls, finances, and overall
execution.
WHAT DOES A TYPICAL DAY ON THE JOB LOOK LIKE FOR YOU?
My day starts around 6:30 AM with safety briefings and reviewing
emails. I check estimates and schedules, make calls with
clients, and visit job sites to meet with the design team and
project coordinators. I manage project finances, review
equipment needs, and handle contracts and estimates. Every day
is different, but this is 90% of the tasks I do.

What I love most about my job is honestly my team. I love to
create an environment where my team can thrive. I focus on
making a friendly and supportive work atmosphere that promotes
ownership and collaboration.

How Is Construction Management Essential To The Day-To-Day
Operations Of The Company?
Construction management acts as a magnet connecting different
functions like design, electrical, and civil teams. It’s the
role that steers the operation. We make sure that operations are
aligned with profitability targets and efficient construction
practices. By bridging gaps between estimation and construction,
it helps address issues on site and facilitates effective
communication among teams.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR LEADERSHIP STYLE?
My leadership style is approachable and inclusive, with an
open-door policy. I aim to coach my team and help them find
their own solutions to problems, avoiding micromanagement. By
setting clear processes and targets, I give team members room to
spread their wings and be more creative. Be open to new ideas,
because everybody is valuable. I often recognize and celebrate
hard work by organizing treats or meetings to show my
appreciation. I believe in including my team in decision-making
and making them feel like they are part of the decision
process.

Successful construction managers need to be open-minded,
detail-oriented, and able to view the bigger picture. They
should include their team in decision-making and be able to
handle criticism. Balancing a focus on details with an
understanding of the overall project is key.
